Chiswick’s Christmas lights were switched on at 5pm on Monday, 27th November 2023 by a group of 11-18 year old students from Chiswick School who led an enthusiastic singalong of Christmas carols and songs, directed by Chiswick School’s creative arts co-ordinator Tommy Robinson.
The weather was icy but voices were warm and spirited. Mince pies and Tunnock’s Teacakes provided energy before the singalong and reward afterwards. Father Christmas offered presents to a lucky few younger members of the crowd who gathered on the pavement to watch and join in. The switch was pressed illuminating a beautiful tree on the corner of Annandale Road and Chiswick High Road and lights along Devonshire Road, Chiswick High Road and Turnham Green Terrace.
After the lights were switched on, the crowd turned to listen to acclaimed cellist Orlando Jopling and renowned violinist Sijie Chen of Wild Arts opera company who will be performing Handel’s Messiah at St Michael’s and All Angels on Saturday, 9th December.
